GENDER EQUALITY

In India, gender equality is the state of having easy access to many resources and opportunities for both sexes, including economic participation and decision-making, and equally valuing all behaviours, goals, and needs.

According to the Global Gender Gap Report released by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in 2021, India was ranked 140 on the Gender Gap Index (GGI) among 156 countries polled. Gender inequality in India refers to health, education, economy and socio-political inequalities between men and women.

In India, there is essentially no access to knowledge or information regarding teenage reproductive & sexual health or gender education. The situation is worse in rural villages and urban slums where most families live in precarious situations with few resources.

Gender Equality

The objectives of The Right Place For You Foundation’s Gender Equality Programme are to:

  • Provide basic knowledge and awareness to adolescent girls (10-19 years age group) on reproductive and sexual health; and build their knowledge & skills on family life;.

  • Educating them with basic digital skills, enhancing their abilities and employability with better understanding of gender discrimination, social stigma, issues and challenges;

  • Learn the impact of Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) for maintaining good health at the community level, community engagement and communication.

The focus of the gender- related issue is basically gender-based equality and this causes gender-based equality, discrimination and oppression. By gender equality, we mean those equality and discrimination that are based only on gender and not on the basis of one’s ability, skill, or any other characteristic, that is simply gender. Discrimination is based on sexism affects both men and women but women are affected more than men.

We are a non- governmental private organization that helps people in matters like health, education, employment through our own financial sources and external support.

There are many such cases come in our NGO, in which some cases are gender based,  in which the mentality of the people in our society is that men are superior to women as gender is mostly combined with traditions and gender roles in which this belief is prevalent men are more superior and higher than women.  As a result, women and girls are often discriminated against in terms of education, health, and employment. Which affects their freedom in a negative way, some of which are spread gender equality goes on assuming how not giving equal pay for equal work, not providing equal opportunities to advance women.

Causes of discrimination in gender equality

There are many difficulties in achieving gender equality because the mentality of the people of the society is that men are superior to women, due to which discrimination between the two is often seen in many places, which is considered very common, but it is considered to be very common in its own right.

There is a huge issue in you which is seen all over the world because of which men are given more importance than women due to which women are not taken seriously about their education and which again promotes gender equality and in which things like child marriage and child labor also reflect gender equality.

Problems in gender equality

  1. Gender division in education

  2. Financial and economic empowerment  (Gender pay gap)

  3. Poor health care

  4.  Child marriage

  5. Lack of representation for women

Poverty in gender equality: - poverty is also a disadvantage in gender equality in which things like domestic violence, forced marriage, sexual abuse, insensitivity towards women etc.

Our NGO efforts to bring gender equality among all people in the society

It is always our endeavor to bring a change in the mindset of the society in which we can end this discrimination in gender equality or improve the status of women in particular and promote gender equality because under the constitution of india all we have been given right to equality under which we help people, in this we try in many ways like : -

Awareness camping - we make people aware of gender equality through awareness  camping.

Education – Our role in the field of education is that we go to the schools and see that there is no discrimination between boys and girls, if it is happening then we solve it and we go to  rural areas and work in rural areas. Go and encourage the rural people for education so that they can give freedom to their children to go to school for their better future.
